TURKISH-KOREAN RELATIONS, 23.04.2019

Turkey and Korea are today’s rising powers in the far east and the far west of Asia. These two active regional powers, taking advantage of being members of international platforms such as G-20 and MIKTA, spare no effort in bringing an added value in the search of solutions to global challenges of today as well as to peace, stability and prosperity.

It goes without saying that, denying the geographical distance, these two brotherly countries have nurtured a very special bond –blood brotherhood- stemming from the support of Turkey in the Korean War which resulted in a long-standing and deep-rooted friendship and cooperation.

Free Trade Agreement between Turkey and Korea entered into force as of May 2013, constituting a landmark in our economic and trade relations. Services and Investments parts of the Turkey-Korea Free Trade Agreement have been signed in 2015.

As of 2018, Turkish-Korea trade volume today stands approximately at 7 billlion USD. Once the Investments and Services parts enter into force, the FTA will be instrumental in bringing a balance to our bilateral trade and will help increase Korean investments in Turkey. Furthermore, it will be a stepping stone for Turkish producers and exporters to increase their activities in the region.
