The Türkiye section of the War Memorial of Korea Museum has been enriched for the purpose of highlighting the role of the Turkish Brigade, also known as the "North Star," in the Korean War and showcasing the heroism of Turkish soldiers
The Ministry of National Defense donated additional museum artifacts used by the Turkish Brigade during the Korean War. The Seoul Armed Forces Attaché Office delivered the museum artifacts to the War Memorial of Kore in a ceremony attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Seoul Murat Tamer and the Embassy staff.
Ambassador Murat Tamer and the accompanying Embassy delegation were hosted by Kim Young Cheol, Director of the War Memorial of Korea, on the occasion of the delivery ceremony of the equipment used by the Turkish Brigade.
The Korean War started on June 25, 1950, when North Korea invaded South Korea. Turkey participated in the war as one of the 16 countries that joined United Nations forces and ranked fourth in troop numbers with 21,212 soldiers.
Among the 986 Turkish soldiers who were martyred or missing in the war, 462 are buried in the UN Korean Memorial Cemetery in the city of Busan in Korea.
Turkish soldiers who participated in the Korean War stayed in Korea until 1972 after the ceasefire, providing medical services for Korean civilians, humanitarian aid, and food, clothing, and education support for orphaned children. The Ankara School opened by Turkish soldiers in Korea at that time and the sacrifices of Turkish soldiers, as well as the special place they gained in the hearts of the Korean people, have never been forgotten.
